International Golf Media Experience: Golfing Philippine-Style

The Association for Inbound Golf Tourism Philippines (AIGTP) Inc. and the Tourism Promotions Board's (TPB) continuous effort to promote Inbound Golf Tourism has taken a step forward with a recently concluded Golf Media Familiarization Tour, the first fam of its kind to be conducted in the Philippines. AIGTP members and TPB hosted 13 delegates representing 10 countries, namely, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, and the USA. The 13 delegates comprised of 11 media representatives who write for golf magazines and broadsheets, while 2 are Tour Operators bringing big golf groups to various golf destinations. The purpose of the fam trip was to let the delegates, all golfers and experts in their own fields, see and experience Golfing in the Philippines, confident that they have brought back with them a great experience they would be excited to write about and recommend to golfers in their respective countries.

The Golf Media Familiarization Tour happened at a very opportune time when the Philippines is starting to pick-up on Golf Tourism arrivals. In fact, the first quarter of 2015 expects an influx of Golfers coming from Australia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, and the U.S.”, said AIGTP President Connie Mamaril. “AIGTP is fortunate to have TPB's support in promoting Philippine Golf Tourism. The Association is optimistic that Visit Philippines 2015 will likewise be a showcase of the Philippines as the next Golfing Destination in Asia to watch out for.”, she added.

In the course of the 6-day fam tour, 6 Golf Clubs (South Forbes Golf Club, Eagle Ridge Golf & Country Club, Mount Malarayat Golf & Country Club, Fairways & Bluewater Newcoast Boracay, Valley Golf & Country Club, Tagaytay Highlands International Golf Club, and Tagaytay Midlands Golf Club) and 4 hotel chains (Microtel by Wyndham, Remington Hotel, The Bayleaf Intramuros, and Maxims Hotel) were fortunate to have been included in the delegates' full itinerary. Their days were packed with golf plays, as you would imagine, coupled with the Manila traffic that could be unbearable (what with all the roadwork happening all over the Metro, in preparation for Visit the Philippines 2015). But, as one of the delegates remarked, the traffic they had to endure was soon a thing of the past once they have reached their destination, because the experience that awaited them in each golf and dinner venue was all worth the long travel. Bel-Air Bus Charter Corp. provided the comfortable bus which transported the group throughout their stay.
